At some point in everyone’s life, the question is asked: What is the meaning of my life? Why am I here? What is the unique work I was born to do? What is my purpose?
Everyone wants their life to count for something. Whether you are a day laborer, nurse, or doctor, you want your life to matter, and knowing your purpose helps you to know your life matters. For sure, no one wants to believe they were born, lived for a time, then died without their life counting for something special. So how do you find your purpose? Purpose is the unique work each person is called to do by our Creator. It is that work or task that gives you peace, whether it is your paid job or not. And even if you are retired and are still searching for your purpose, you can find it.
God’s word in Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Begin by realizing that God, who numbered every hair on your head, and gave you a fingerprint on your hand like no one else on the planet, also designed you for a special purpose. Ask God to direct you toward your purpose if you are not serving your purpose right now. Write down what you think God is showing you as the purpose for your life. Then seek out volunteer or paid tasks consistent with what God reveals as your purpose.
That's today's good news!
